The Fascinating World of Cosplay

From a (semi) beginner's point of view.
I am relatively new to the comicon scene, but I've always been a fond of dressing up in characters. Once I've got the courage to go to my first Comicon in Phoenix, four years ago, I got hooked. It felt great to be around a sea of people that embrace the same passion. From that day on, the rest is history.

(click on the highlighted words to get more info)

How hard is it to put a costume together of your favorite character, in time for COMICON ?

On a budget, too? There are plenty of DIY sites and YouTube tutorials out there.

And the toughest question of all: Once you've got it all ready, do you have the guts to go outside in that costume? Will you stay in character the entire time?

After you buy yourself the 4-day ticket, way in advance, because the earlier you plan it the more money savvy it will be.

These guys did a great job portraying the new Baywatch (2017) movie .

Once you've finished the cosplay, you MUST wear it around the house, backyard, front, if it's not going to scare the neighbors, to make sure it fits proper, doesn't hurt, or falls apart if you sneeze.

Friendly advice: Figure out how to take it off to go to the bathroom, and fit it all in the small stall. You have to stay hydrated.

Check out my experience at: Steampunkista on FB

You can easily hide your backpack to keep your keys, phone, tickets, water, etc- making it part of the costume, or have an awesome BFF who will hold your stuff. :) Battle buddy system works best.

To make it even more memorable, you can set up a mini photoshoot with expert cosplay photographers in your area for a small fee.

Here are a few in Arizona, I've worked with and I highly recommend:

O Rama Federation Magazine

Independent magazine showcasing international artists and their talents.

"O Rama" meaning like a 'wide view'  and "Federation" because every artists that submits him/herself had the freedom to reveal about themselves whatever wishes to the world.
Started because my first time I was published- in a magazine with two poems- I couldn't stop smiling for about two weeks. I wanted to recreate that feeling for others too.

Here are some of the covers. We had artists from around the world and from various fields. Some examples: clay miniature animals creator, DJ, balalaika player, oil painter, cosplayers, photographers, models, singers, acrobats, actors, and many more.

If you'd like to check it out or be featured, message: https://www.facebook.com/O.RAMA.FEDERATION

Me And My Thumb- a title just like that

I decorated thy Thumb. From now on it is safe!  LOL
By the way, did anyone see the 1st season? It is on Netflix and it is hilarious. :)

Looking at entertainment in Arizona, it is slow but "getting there". I guess you have to look for fun or make your own.

Got to hang with fabulous Japanese drummers. Taiko Drumming you've got to experience at least once in your life time. :)

Back to being "incapacitated" and the struggle to do everyday things, I did more than just that. I've created bow ties. Their names are how I was feeling at the time.
See here: WHICH ONE fits you best. For you and/or for your pet.

I had to play a prank, because it was there.. so I just had to!  :))

The ocean has a sense of humor too.

Hurt, but not dead, I say!  My first time doing this, in the ocean.. something to remember for decades to come. I know I will NOT forget to: LEAN LEFT! LEAN LEFT!  :))
Who did this before, understands. ;)
From the Hawaii trip, I got a souvenir. Even though it is made in Philippines, "ME AND MY THUMB" still love it.

Stopped by Hawaii Chess Fest

Hanging by the pool, keeping my thumb dry, checking out distortions that the warm Arizona water makes. :)

xoxo
Till next time.   stay sexy everyone!

Incapacitated.. but still functioning

Handy-capped!
  and here comes the irony:
In my spare time, I practice CAPOEIRA. I adore this sport.
In my other "spare time" I shoot people. (with my camera)
 and so on...

Lately, my thumb got so injured, that the tendon needs a break, OR IT WILL BREAK. The blood escaped the vein and got so close to the skin, my thumb looked like an EGGPLANT.
Don't get me wrong, I LOVE EGGPLANT SALAD. (Recipe coming after a few paragraphs, maybe)
Double the size, the "ripe" color of an eggplant, and painful like salt in your eyes.

This is the best I can do with my RIGHT hand. Not too dramatic. Right?
WRONG!

Did I mention I am a lefty?

That changes things. It is like learning to walk all over again. Not to mention most of the kitchen utensils are not lefty-friendly, that includes most of the scissors. I still managed to make a few bow ties.

CULTURAL CORNER:
Papillon -in French is the bowtie. it means butterfly. See the resemblance?
Farfalle- is the Italian pasta from FARFALLA- butterfly; cravatta a farfalla.

shop here for your own bowtie   more to come :)

Not being able to do other things, I actually climbed a mountain. Whatta Hike!  LOL  Awesome view, agreed?

Peep me! I realized these are good!

Let's accessorize. How is that?
Idea came from a friend, and it's genius. (You will get to meet him soon).  (Come back to future posts, so you can see where ME AND MY THUMB have been and how it got "fashioned"up :))

I will leave you on this note: the magazine is OUT!!  :)

and it's already having unusual readers!

Cheaper Coffee- Ground Coffee

Supposedly coffee stains your teeth, among many other foods and habits we have.
I found the remedy. Most of you may not like it.
I will ease you in: I like my coffee room temperature.

I drink mine with a straw. You can't really do that if you like it flaming hot. It's a compromise you gotta make. Or not. :)

Through the straw, the least amount will touch your teeth, and even then it will be already mixed with saliva. It will be way less concentrated.

I enjoy to make my own: Turkish style.

In this tiny IBRIK (ibri:q) the magic happens.

I brought this with me from my last trip to Europe. It helps because it starts to boil really fast. The small amount of liquid intake is not having me take too many breaks in the morning (to go tinkle).

Friendly Advice:

If you are not used to the strength of it, then don't drink it before an important meeting or a test. It tends to make you shake, uncontrollably.  LOL

My father used to laugh a lot when he saw people walking around with the pint size coffee pot all day long. He was whispering, sarcastically: "Wean yourself already. You are over 18." :))

I realized I was not a fan of coffee for a long time, in my life. Health problems- I guess I can blame it on that- have had me get on the COFFEE DEPENDENCY WAGON.

Coffee, is a "drug". It creates dependency, and as your body gets accustomed to it, it asks more and more. I've tested it myself. So whenever I need a "break", I cut it out- cold turkey. Gruesome, isn't it? Indeed, but the organism needs to have cycles. ON and OFF for basically everything. {Think about it}

It helps with going easier the #2, flushes out what the unnecessaries.

(unnecessaries - plural noun un·necessaries \¦ən+\  Definition of UNNECESSARIES :  expendable material :  needless or unimportant things)

It lifts the low blood pressure. (that's my reason). By lunch time, I find myself with a headache and no energy. A 1/2 cup of TURKISH COFFEE and in 15-20 min, I am ready for the world. :)

Simple.

CULTURE CORNER:

Here are some names you might already know.

The name cezve is of Arabic origin, but the spelling derives from the Ottoman Turkish spelling in Arabic script (جذوه), based on Arabic جذوة, meaning a burning log or coal (presumably because the pot was heated on them)
Other regional variations of the word cezve are jezve and čezve. In Ukrainian and Russian, the word is spelled джезва (where it exists alongside турка, IPA: [ˈturkə]). In Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, Croatia and Slovenia it is a long-necked coffee pot, spelled "džezva".

Other names

  • In Greece, the device is called briki (μπρίκι), a borrowed word from the Ottoman Turks.
  • In Macedonia, it is known as ѓезве (ǵezve).
  • In Armenian, the brewer is called jazva (Ջազվա).
  • In Bosnia & Herzegovina, Serbia and Croatia, the cezva is known as džezva.
  • In Bulgaria, cezve is known as джезве (džezve).
  • In Israel the vessel is commonly known as a פינג'אן (finjan), a name derived from the Arabic term for a small serving cup.
  • In Kosovo and Albania the word gjezve/xhezve is used, as Turkish coffee is very popular there.
  • Raqwa (rakwa) — Rakwa is an Arabic word
  • Zezwa — The Tunisian name derived from Cezve.
  • Kanaka — The Egyptian Arabic term.
  • Ghallāye — The Palestinian term.
  • In Russia, cezve is commonly called "turka" (“турка”, 'too-rkuh').
  • In Romanian, the brewer is called "ibric".

My thumb is showing off my BUNNY BUTTS I've made, even though Easter already passed, eh, I make my own holidays.

Es Un Conspiration CORNER:  Did anyone ever think about WHY already grounded coffee is cheaper than the whole beans coffee you buy at the store?

Naturally, it should be higher in price, because it took longer time, and time is $$, to ground it. Either a person's time (who is paid) and a machine (electricity, wear and tear, the machine itself)... made it "fine enough for your convenience. So why is it cheaper?

Little less coffee beans and a lot more chickpeas beans, grounded together. MUCH CHEAPER. {something to think about}

COFFEE made from chickpeas and chicory... also.

Are you familiar with "Chicory". It is a natural caffeine free drink, a.k.a DECAF coffee.

read more here: what-is-chicory
 "
  • Ancient Egyptians, Greeks and Romans used it as a liver tonic, sedative and appetite stimulant.
  • Early 19th century French chefs and writers believed chicory to be a 'contra-stimulante', that is, the sedative effects were a perfect compliment to the stimulating effects of the caffeine in coffee. On the other hand they believed its use by 'bloodless' or 'lymphatic' persons should be avoided.
  • The fresh root has been said to be useful against pulmonary consumption. A decoction of 1 oz of root to a pint of boiling water has been found to be effective against jaundice and liver enlargement.
  • Syrup of chicory is said to be an excellent laxative for children since it works without irritation.
  • Ancient herbalists considered the bruised leaves to make a good poultice for swelling and inflamed eyes.
  • Modern herbalists say chicory increases bile production, moderates a rapid heart rate, lowers cholesterol and destroy bacteria."

Looks Like Loops

Or loopy people.

Differences.

Genius.

Fault

No idea why I am going in this direction, but I kind of like it. Who hasn't felt like running on the hamster wheel for years and years? Any changes happening? Big LOL about it and yet it makes you cry.. a little.. inside..?

taking a chance. everytime you leave the house, it is a "taking a chance" deal. a big deal- if you have fear of open spaces. it is a phobia. all in your head, but, it is. and it's serious.

buying a lottery ticket, is another "taking a chance" In Italian LOTTO, lotteria, means taking a chance with fortune, your luck.

Boring.

good night!

Breakups...

and their effect on your physical body.

Did you know that after an emotional breakup your body feels pain when seeing a photo of your ex?

Same it feels when you leave your favorite place, like selling your house, or losing your favorite shirt..

We love, we fall in love.. better said: FALL IN STUPID. Only when you are over your ears in love you do things you never would if you were "thinking normal"
:))
What is that, anyways? Makes me laugh just thinking about it. We fall in stupid, though. You sit and reflect.
Why we pick the broken heart up, patch it up and then, here we go again. Looking for "love" a.k.a. the next one who will break it in more pieces than it was. The sense of belonging, maybe? The tingle you get in your stomach, or your toes, or wherever you feel it, can't be replaced. Or can it?

Food. It can do the trick. The fullness sensation can be a way!

That is what bodybuilders can say as well. Being in the gym, feeling the "sweet burn" of the muscle growing fixes everything. Then the result, the visual result, is pretty awesome! ;) check this guy out

 Eye candy.

A breakup does lots of damage if you've invested a lot of yourself in that relationship. Or it can do absolutely nothing, if all it was just a "fling". Men usually, (not all macho) get over a breakup easier. I say: MYTH!

              LOVE IS PAIN

also this video  can explain it better:   video that explains like WHOA!

I am not sure what advice to give for the ones that have broken hearts. Hold on to your sanity and don't do anything stupid. (really!) This too shall pass. Time is of the essence. :P  Let it come and go. During the tic-tacs do something constructive. Fill your time with new activities or old ones. Find a new hobby. Go on a vacation. Find a support group. Meetup has interesting groups that seriously can fit any and everything you can think of.

stay sexy!   xoxo
